Cupping

Cupping is a healing therapy which dates back to ancient Chinese medicine. This treatment involves creating a vacuum around areas of injury, pain, or tension. At Avanti Acupuncture and Wellness Center the technique of cupping is done by using glass cups. A cotton ball is saturated with 91% alcohol and then lit to create heat. After this the cotton is placed into a glass cup and removed. The glass cup is quickly placed on the skin, thereby creating a vacuum.

Cupping is excellent for bringing circulation to the surface, which helps to release toxins, relieve pain, and relax muscle tension. Cupping is also effective for the early stages of colds and certain lung conditions.  Cupping is usually a needleless therapy, but it can be used in conjunction with needles.

Chinese Herbal Therapies

Chinese herbs have been used for the treatment of various conditions for many centuries. Oriental Medicine and herbal therapies go back to the model of treating the root cause of disease rather than just the symptoms.

At Avanti Acupuncture and Wellness Center the patient's health condition is carefully analyzed, and then, if needed, the most appropriate herbal prescription is selected for the individual. Only the highest quality of herbs in tincture form, tea pills, and teas are used to ensure safety, potency, and efficacy. The herbs at the center are ordered from trusted American manufacturers with a long and respected track record.

Food Therapy

Diet is an integral part of East Asian medicine and culture. The traditional Chinese Medicine view of healing with foods is a fascinating and unique perspective which focuses on many dimensions. For example the energy of food is considered along with its nutritional and caloric content.

At Avanti Acupuncture and Wellness Center, Vaishali Laddu, A.P. uses the Oriental medical diagnosis to select the most useful whole food remedies to benefit the patient with his or her condition. Special attention and emphasis are placed on the source, selection, and preparation of foods as well.

Moxibustion and Heat Therapy

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy which involves the use of the herb Mugwort.  Mugwort, with its many therapeutic properties, can be used in different forms. One example is that Mugwort is shaped into a cigar-shaped stick and then burned to release heat and healing properties. This stick is then used indirectly on the skin.  Moxibustion is claimed to be beneficial against cold and dampness in the body and has also been used to turn breech babies.

Massage

Vaishali Laddu, A.P. is a licensed massage therapist (MA53742) who also collaborates with other massage therapists to offer therapies such as Reflexology and Acupressure.

Reflexology is a form of pressure point massage on the feet which addresses body systems, which in turn, can be therapeutic and relaxing.  Sessions of reflexology can be booked at Avanti Acupuncture and Wellness Center (MM29007).

Acupressure is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine which involves the stimulation of acupuncture points with finger pressure. This is a needleless therapy that is ideal for children. It is safe and effective for many conditions, including relief of symptoms of cold, flu, arthritis, constipation, and poor circulation. Acupressure is also offered at Avanti Acupuncture and Wellness Center.

The on-site massage therapist, Dena Fenn (MA 51925), offers massage in neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, structural integration, lymphatic drainage, visceral manipulation, Swedish massage, trigger point, and Esalon therapy.

Energy Medicine

Energy Medicine involves healing through different techniques. At Avanti Acupuncture and Wellness Center, the energy healing modalities of Reiki and Bars are offered.

Both of the above healing therapies are based upon the idea that healing energy is transported into a person by light or distant touch. Different centers or points on the body are felt or tested to see where energy is needed or where it needs to be released. The results of energy medicine are described as far-reaching, often affecting body, mind, and spirit.
